About usOur history
Trevor Benton started his business in 1954 where Mr A E King, an architect in Ely, gave Trevor his first job working on local farm bungalows. Trevor obtained a contract to carry out plumbing work to Comberton Village College. The then RAF Hospital in Ely was upgraded by J Jarvis of London. All plumbing, and sanitaryware was carried out by our plumbers.
As the business grew, Trevor oversaw larger heating contracts for Schools for Cambridgeshire County Council. Benton Heating spent three and a half years carrying out all cast iron drain and plumbing work to the new prison at March in Cambridgeshire. They then won a five year maintenance contract at RAF Lakenheath and at that time, carried out various other works for the Department of Environment; employing some sixteen plumbers including five apprentices. He also employed 11 painters and decorators as the business diversified.
Trevor Benton ventured into property maintenance 22 years ago opening an office in Ipswich, employing over 100 people at that time, with the Head office remaining in Ely.
Today the Trevor Benton Group is still a family run business and at 82 years young, Trevor likes to come to work most days to keep his hand on the tiller. Trevor’s family continues to help him move the business forward, evolving and streamlining the company.
